In my opinion, there are three skin scenarios you might fit into as your wedding approaches:
- You have acne that needs clearing up
- You have normal skin but just want to make sure your skin’s at its best for the wedding
- You’re concerned with pigmentation and/or anti-aging
1. You Have Acne that Needs Clearing Up
So this one is pretty obvious. If you have acne prone skin and you’re trying to clear it up for the wedding (or just in general) my professional advice would be to schedule a series of peels at your local spa (hopefully Beach House Spa) and depending on your budget consider investing in a new set of home care products that will work with your treatments to speed up the process. At Beach House, we use Skinceutical’s Salicylic/Mandelic Peel in our Clear Complexion Facial and the secret weapon is a quick pass with High Frequency at the end. The mix of acids in this particular peel is exceptionally efficient at exfoliating the skin but more importantly getting deep down into pores and cleaning them out. High frequency is a professional machine that emits electricity at a rate that kills the bacteria responsible for acne. This series of facials coupled with a gentle cleanser, retinol, and a super hydrating, oil-free moisturizer and/or serum would be the best treatment plan for someone trying to clear their acne fast. This goes for anyone trying to clear up their skin.
2. You Have Normal Skin but Just Want to Make Sure Your Skin’s at its Best for the Wedding
People who are blessed with naturally clear, beautiful skin – just know that I envy you! And while you might think you don’t NEED a facial before your wedding, you’re partially right. Speaking as someone who makes a living off of giving facials and just happens to love getting them, I would always recommend getting one whether it’s to help you relax as the wedding gets closer, or just to make your skin look a little extra bright and glowy for pictures. It’s also nice to have your pores cleared out occasionally and to balance skin potentially affected by seasonal changes. On the other hand, if you’re one of those people whose skin always looks better than most, as long as you’re using proper products at home and you’re exfoliating, it’s not life or death that you do – but it definitely will help your skin look amazing under makeup. I will just leave you with this – aging skin effects everyone eventually, so even though you may not need a facial before the wedding, it is essential to start thinking of stepping up your skin game – we like to call it “age management” at the spa. The facial I would recommend from Beach House would be the Antioxidant Facial. This facial has a Glycolic/Lactic Peel which is good for exfoliating the surface of your skin leaving your skin brighter and smoother. It also has a brightening Vitamin C mask and serum applied. It rocks.
3. You’re Concerned with Pigmentation and/or Anti-aging
Clients that have pigmentation and aging concerns benefit best from a series as well. Pigmentation and aging takes years to accumulate, reversing or at least seeing a difference in your skin does not happen in one magical facial. In fact, if you want to see serious results (but are okay with some healing and downtime), then your best bet is to see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. To my benefit, if you do choose to come to the spa, the treatment I always recommend to clients is the Advanced Microdermabrasion Facial. It’s the same as the antioxidant facial only it adds in a pass of micro (and LED light therapy or Microcurrent can be added for an additional kick.) If you’re not a huge fan of micro, a similar exfoliation can be achieved by layering both peels (glycolic/lactic & salicylic/mandelic). This double exfoliation clears the skin of dead, dry cells and stimulates cell turnover, a process necessary for youthful skin, but slows down as we age. Cell turnover ultimately brings pigmentation located deep within the skin to the surface and eventually can be exfoliated off as well as stimulates collagen and elastin to help tighten and smooth the skin’s surface. This facial coupled with an antioxidant serum, retinol, and nourishing moisturizer, in my opinion, yields the best results.
